Modern brogues trace their roots back to a simple shoe originating in Scotland and Ireland that was made from untanned hide with perforations, allowing water to drain when the wearer crossed wet ground. The name ‘brogue’ is taken from the Gaelic bróg (Irish), bròg (Scottish) for "shoe". Brogues have four toe cap styles (full or "wingtip", semi-, quarter and longwing) and four closure styles (Oxford, Derby, Ghillie, and Monk).

Comfortable to wear, brogues add a masculine edge to any outfit. They look great with a pair of slim-legged trousers and a knit or a tailored dress for the office.
