Summer's on the horizon but let's face it, it's never too early to start planning that warm-weather wardrobe. To give us a head start we've enlisted the fashion director of Stylist magazine, Alex Fullerton to select her favourite buys to snap up now and wear right through to June.

Pink is the colour of the season and the fastest way to update your outfits for spring is to switch out your classic blue jeans for these fuchsia twill pants. Despite its brightness, pink is surprisingly versatile and these will work with a slouchy navy knit at the weekend or chambray shirt, tucked in.

My solution for weekend dressing - and everyday office wear, if you work somewhere that appreciates denim - is the denim dress. You will never look overdressed (my biggest fear - who wants to look like they're trying too hard) but the scalloped edges and delicate pin tucks certainly look like you have made an effort. A wardrobe staple.

Turn the traditional Breton top on its head, or at least on its side, and subvert the stripes for this easy breezy knit top. Wear it under a slouchy navy linen trouser suit with white plain leather plimsolls for a totally on-trend take.

Downsizing your bag will be the best decision you ever made. But don't be deceived, this brilliant shoulder bag is still super roomy and will fit all your essentials (just not the unnecessary clutter we all accumulate!) The classic saddle shape is a style you will have in your wardrobe forever.

Come summer, a classic tan leather sandal is what I live in. With jeans, a bikini, shorts...but when the temperatures soar, will you be able to find a pair you like? No way! So snap these up now and feel ultra-prepared for the warm weather we are all praying for.
