How do you take trainers from a gym bag essential to a wardrobe staple? It's all about how you wear them says ex fashion editor and founder of fashion blog, En Brogue, Hannah Rochell. With that in mind, we asked her to style up our new White Stuff kicks with her pick of our new season collection, and to provide her top tips on how to wear trainers. The result? An ode to the transitional trainer; practical and perfect in every way.
I LOVE white trainers. They are a game-changer when it comes to having a stylish wardrobe
(particularly if, like me, you're not a fan of heels) because they go with literally everything.
Believe me, I've tried and tested my theory for proof!
Whether it's your everyday jeans and T-shirt get-up, or a more snazzy evening outfit
like a classic little black dress, I've yet to find anything that a sleek pair of white sneakers doesn't
look great with. They even work with that tricky but 100% necessary cold-weather staple:
black opaque tights. What's not to love about that?
With their minimalist design and a flash of silver on the heel, they'll compliment pretty
much everything you own, and it goes without saying that they're incredibly comfortable
(even without socks!). Here's how I wear mine.
"One really nice thing about white trainers is that they don't fight for attention with the rest of your outfit, so if you're opting for something eye-catching like this printed quilted jacket, they're the perfect partner. I also like to wear mine with patterned socks. If you're after more of an evening look, swap the boyfriend jeans for black tailored trousers."
"I'm going to share my biggest flat
shoe styling secret with you - and it's an
easy one! I find that jeans and trousers
always look more flattering with flat shoes if they are either cropped, or turned up
high enough to reveal a flash of your
ankles. Not only that, but it shows off
your beloved shoes better than with the
trouser hem hanging over them."
"I’ve been known to wear my white trainers with my fanciest party frocks (make sure they are spotless if you are going to do this!), but they are also brilliant with more casual styles like a denim dress. This is a look that works for all seasons; try layering cardigans and jumpers over the top, or pop a slim-fit roll neck underneath until the mercury rises."
