Made for Change - White Stuff FoundationMade for Change - Funding scholarships in India, one bag at a time. We have funded scholarships for over 459 children so far!

Four years ago in India, a brilliant idea was conceived over a cup of chai; a collection of beautiful bags, made from surplus White Stuff fabrics and with a print pocket, that would be sold to fund a scholarship scheme in Bangalore.

Although schooling in India is free (and compulsory) for children aged 6-14, the country still has the largest number of illiterate adults in the world. Over 50% of children drop out by age fourteen. This scholarship gives high-achieving, underprivileged children the help they need to continue their education and improve their literacy.

A child's scholarship costs just £214 a year and covers all their educational expenses including school fees, uniforms and shoes, educational materials and exam fees. The bags and bunting can be bought in our shops or online, so treat yourself and your friends this Christmas and help put lots more children through school in 2015.

This year, we ran a competition and asked the Bangalore schoolchildren to come up with an image for the front pocket based on "what made them happy". The winning print was sketched by 13-year-old Shabana and is printed on all of the bags. In addition, we've just added fabric bunting to the range; ideal for celebrations and everyday decoration alike.

What's next?

We hope to extend the scholarship scheme to underprivileged children of all abilities,
not just the high achievers.
