Shop Spotlight - The first White Stuff Emporium, 89 George Street, Edinburgh..

In our very first ‘Shop Spotlight’ we’d like to tell you about our biggest ever shop; the Edinburgh Emporium. 89 George Street is very special to us - we call it an Emporium because it is so big (over 2000ft!) and because it houses all of our lovely products under one roof.
Although it’s vast, we’ve worked hard to keep our warm, local shop atmosphere and to restore the history of service and community spirit to the historic Gray’s building. The emporium is run by our shopkeeper Richard and his team - they are always on hand with information on new stock, ideas on outfitting or simply to serve a hot chocolate or cup of tea. Our friendly concierge greets every shopper at the door and prides himself on his knowledge of the Edinburgh area.

Every White Stuff shop is unique and the Edinburgh Emporium is even quirkier; once inside shoppers are literally taken to a different world.  The Narnia-inspired dressing rooms are shallow wardrobes that open to reveal much bigger spaces, all lovingly themed. They include; a disco with a working mirrorball, a 1960’s pantry full of food and a Scottish souvenir shop complete with tartan wallpaper and Irn Bru! There’s a magic mirror in the dressing rooms too - this enables shoppers to send photos of their outfits via email or Facebook.
Our cash desk is a working sweet shop, complete with vintage tills, where shoppers can buy sweets by making a small donation to the shops’ charity. And there’s more; a kids den where kids can play whilst Mum and Dad shop and a vintage ‘pimped’ phone box where shoppers can browse our website for anything extra they might need.

We often run events for the local community in the shop; Pilates and baby massage classes are hosted here once a week. In August, White Stuff Edinburgh was chosen to house Harry Hill’s art exhibition, ‘My Hobby’ and ‘The House of Fairy Tales’ as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival. This Christmas, Santa will be coming to Edinburgh and will be in the shop every weekend until Christmas (from the 8th December) and his reindeer will be visiting on 15th December.
