Now summer’s in full swing, it’s time to start planning your holiday wardrobe.
We know how tricky it can be trying to work out which clothes to take, especially when you need to pack
light. So we’ve done all the hard work for you by planning a holiday capsule wardrobe for three different
types of trip: a beach holiday, a city break and
a family staycation.
The key to getting it right? Make a list of the activities you have planned for your holiday while also
considering the weather and the things you feel comfortable wearing – there’s no point packing those heels
if you know you’ll end up wearing flats!
Then it’s a matter of selecting versatile items that you’ll be able to wear for more than one occasion – both
function and colour are key here.
Here’s how to create the perfect capsule wardrobe list for your summer break.
Life’s a Beach
Aside from the vitally important swimsuit, the foundation for the perfect beach holiday capsule collection is the summer tunic. This versatile piece is a 3-in-1 wonder, pop on over your swimsuit and you have the ideal beach cover-up at lunch, add some shorts or crops for daytime sightseeing and accessorise with some metallic sandals and a crossbody bag for the perfect evening look.
A city break is all about taking in the sights and enjoying some culture, so you need comfortable clothes that look stylish, but are versatile enough for any changes in temperature.
A printed dress like this one is perfect as it works just as well for daytime sightseeing as it does for dinner in the evening – just swap your comfy plimsolls for a pair of more elegant sandals and your tote bag for a metallic cross body bag then add a dash of lipstick and enjoy your night out on the tiles.
A denim jacket is the ideal city break cover up as it goes with literally everything and will keep you warm but still looking summery.
And a lightweight scarf will become your new best friend as it has so many uses, from keeping the air-con at bay on the flight or a chilly museum or gallery, to doubling up as an evening wrap - and it can be easily tied to your
bag strap when not in use.
When you’ve got the kids to look after, the last thing you have time for is planning what to pack for yourself. So we’ve done that for you with this selection of versatile, coordinated pieces that mean you can focus on enjoying your time with your family.
A cotton jersey maxi dress, like this bold striped number will keep you protected from the sun but still looking summery and is so versatile. You can wear it to the beach over your swimming cossie, for days out and even family meals – just add a cardi if it gets nippy in the evenings.
The key to being prepared for a family holiday is keeping it simple and coordinated, so if you have a printed dress or skirt, keep your tops and cover-ups plain and all in coordinating colours – then you can mix and match everything you pack.
