Bury St Edmunds
Fundraising for Gatehouse, is a monthly event for our lovely shop team in Bury St Edmunds. 'We have been together since the shop opened four years ago,' explains Julie Keane from our Bury St Edmunds shop.
'We have a member of the team fundraise for Gatehouse every month and have done everything from plant sales and a "name our shop dog" competition to making our own dog biscuits.'
Founded in 1986 to provide clothing, furniture and household goods to those on restricted incomes in West Suffolk, a lot has changed for the charity. From focusing on supporting young isolated mothers and the elderly to helping to launch The Foodbank for Bury St Edmunds in 2012, last year alone they saved over 45 tonnes of waste from landfill and gave out just over 600 parcels to the local community.
But it's not just about raising money, the shop team also get involved with volunteering at the charity. At Christmas, Leah from the shop team helped out with Gatehouse's annual Christmas Day dinner for the lonely.
'What's so special about the support of White Stuff is that their staff also have volunteered in the Dementia Hub and helped to decorate in the furniture store as well as sorting donations to the foodbank'
Gatehouse CEO Amanda Bloomfield.
'It's great that they actually meet the clients and witness first-hand how fundraising benefits the clients.'
And it looks like there are big plans ahead for Gatehouse with a Dementia Hub for West Suffolk opening at their premises. It's a service that has grown over the years as the need in the local area has increased.
'Gatehouse's new venture of the dementia hub has really resonated with our customers. They love hearing about everything the charity does and are always so happy to get involved with our fundraising.' Julie continues.
'The whole team here love the charity and always want to get involved with the next event.'
