'We believe in the importance of play and the positive impact it has within children's lives.'
That's the motto of Dog Kennel Hill Adventure Playground, so it's no surprise White Stuff's East Dulwich shop wanted to get involved. Established in the early 1970s, it's given 5 to 16-year-olds the opportunity to play freely and take risks in a safe and stimulating environment with qualified staff on hand to supervise.
But it doesn't end there. In addition to the green outside space with swings and wooden dens, they also have indoor facilities with internet access and provide volunteering opportunities to help get young people into employment.
'We are friendly faces within our community that children and even their parents can turn to for help and advice'
Kate Buckingham, Arts and crafts co-ordinator and playworker at Dog Kennel Hill.
'The team at White Stuff's East Dulwich shop have been so consistent with supporting us,' Kate continues. 'Not only because of the financial help that has enabled us to buy items such as arts and crafts equipment and sports equipment, but they also create an awareness of what we do in the community and encourage local people to support us.'
If you've seen the shop's doggy bandanas, you'll know how far they've gone to help support the charity.
'We have done everything from bake sales and making doggy bandanas to cycling 400 miles in a week (on a fixed bike in our shop) to raise money,' says Karen from the East Dulwich shop. 'In total we have raised over £4,000.'
Next on the agenda? The charity has recently submitted a planning application to the local council for a new build to replace its existing indoor space. If approved this will be the focus of the next few years' worth of fundraising.
'The team are always thinking of such fun, innovative ways of raising money,' adds Kate. 'We are always greeted with such a warm welcome, it honestly feels like we are one team.'
