It’s one of those lovely warm spring days. And we’re up on Muswell Hill. Pretty residential streets frame the London skyline. Alexandra Palace looks stately, as the sun peeks out. We aren’t just here to admire the views though. We’re here to catch up with Sylvia Ezer, who we first met in this same spot.

“I think it’s been two years since I first modelled for White Stuff,” Sylvia says, as we walk along Muswell Hill Broadway. “And since that time, this past January, I’ve turned 90 so that’s quite a big milestone.”

We first saw Sylvia when she was browsing in our Muswell Hill shop. Our stylist Ell asked if she would be happy for us to take her photo, modelling one of our striped tops with a denim jacket casually slung on top. And when we put the photos on our social media channels, the reaction was amazing. They quickly became our most engaged post on Facebook that year.

“I did have to get my daughters and granddaughters having a look and seeing what the comments were on social media. It was very complimentary and completely unexpected.”

We then cast Sylvia in our autumn-winter 2023 campaign. She looked incredible again. “I have always thought in recent years that there’s not enough of an older person showing off the clothes,” Sylvia said at the time. “So maybe this is the start of a new venture of showing someone who’s elderly wearing clothes that are fun, colourful and have good styling.”

Sylvia’s gained lots of press attention too: The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Metro. Praising her style, her joy in wearing colour and her confidence. “A lot of people have messaged or gotten in touch to say they’ve spotted me in different places,” Sylvia said, in an interview to The Telegraph. “Someone said they saw me in John Lewis. Stratford-upon-Avon. One of my granddaughter’s friends said, ‘I saw your gran on a billboard in Brighton’”. It’s attention that she didn’t expect.

“Everything that’s happened has been a complete surprise,” she said in the interview. “I suppose it gives you confidence, as an older person – and makes you realise that whatever you would like to try, you should jolly well go ahead and do it.”

Then for our Mother’s Day campaign in 2024, the family invited us round for a coffee and a photoshoot. Outside Sylvia’s gorgeous, cottage-y house, we photographed her with her daughter Nicky and two of her granddaughters: Amika and Calia.

In January this year, Sylvia celebrated her 90th birthday. “My family organised the most beautiful house on Camber Sands. We all drove down for the weekend,” Sylvia said. “It really was a house out of Vogue. Quite heavenly. It was a very special birthday in every way.”

TIME FLIES

Fast forward to today and the camera clicks again on a sun-dappled street. Sylvia gently swirls the checked maxi she’s wearing, looking into the lens as the hem skims over her dusky pink sandals.

“It’s lovely on this sunny afternoon to be modelling this pretty dress from White Stuff,” Sylvia says. “And just to say, that no matter what your age is,” she pauses and smiles, “there’s always something on the rails that will suit you.”

We couldn’t agree more Sylvia.
