STYLING
We love linen season. The easy, understated elegance of it all. A relaxed take on tailored separates and drapey woven dresses for drinks on the lawn. (Pimm’s + lemonade season just so happens to coincide.) But there is a certain art to looking effortlessly cool in linen. Luckily, we’ve got it down to a tee. (A linen one.) So if you’re wondering how to wear linen this season, you’ve come to the right place.
BUT FIRST, A LITTLE ON LINEN
Linen is a natural fibre derived from flax. When grown in Northern Europe, flax requires almost no irrigation, pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers. This summer, 90% of our linen is European Flax™ certified. It’s also beautifully breathable. Read more
HELPING YOU TO KEEP COOL (AND LOOK COOL) IN WARMER WEATHER
Soft and drapey, in a sandy neutral shade. Laid back luxury at its best. This is the kind of style that works whether you’re doing summer at the office. Or summer very far away from the office. And when it comes to figuring out how to wear a linen dress, all you really have to think about are the accessories. We love this one with espadrilles and a statement belt.
An easy, breezy linen shift with a big bold print. Something like this is a must-pack piece for your next hot-weather holiday. The long sleeves protect your arms and shoulders from the midday sun. While keeping you cool. (That’s linen’s superpower.) All it needs is the perfect pair of sandals. And maybe some statement earrings. Post-siesta cocktails, here we come.
Linen is known for being quick to crease. Which we think adds to its charm. (Perfectly imperfect and all that.) But if you prefer your clothes wrinkle-free, we have a top tip: our designers blend many of our linen styles with wrinkle-resistant EcoVero viscose or lightweight cotton. This makes them a little bit softer, a little bit drapier. And a lot less likely to crease. So if you want to know how to wear linen without the increased crease risk, look out for our linen blends.
There’s something about pulling on a pair of linen shorts that feels pleasingly retro. Like heading out for the day with nothing but an out of date guidebook and a sense of adventure. (And some sandwiches for later.)
These ones have smart tuck details and buckles at the waist. Wear them with a tucked in top to show off all the best bits. Then add sandals and a light layer for a day of exploring.
Airy. Elegant. So easy to wear. A classic pair of linen trousers is summer’s answer to your favourite pair of jeans. Team them with a crisp white tee and they’ll take you anywhere. From the office, to the airport, to sangria somewhere on the Spanish coast. And back again. (You know, if you want.)
But if you’re wanting to know how to wear linen trousers with a little more pizazz, this linen co-ord is a great option. Soft and stripey. Breezy and billowy. This set makes us want to haggle over the price of spices. (Preferably somewhere far away and sunny.) The two pieces are sold separately. So you can style them separately too if you like. But we think they’re better together.
If you’re struggling to know how to wear linen, but want to start incorporating it into your wardrobe, a linen blazer is a great place to start. A beautifully tailored, lightweight layer. With a bit of structure (but not too much). A linen blazer is great for throwing on over a dress. This works brilliantly as a wedding guest outfit. (So you have a smart layer in case the church is chilly.) Or team it with tailored separates for smart work things.
There are so many ways to wear linen tops. Elevate your jeans and a tee game with linen tees. Team a floaty pair of palazzo pants with linen tunics. Wear linen shirts with, well, pretty much everything. This bright colour pop linen vest is one of our favourites. It has a twisty trim at the neckline and a nice easy fit. Perfect for pairing with printed trousers or skirts.
Buy linen basics (like tees and tanks) to heatwave-proof your wardrobe. Linen is incredibly high quality. So the bits you buy now will last for years to come.
And there you have it. Don’t know about you, but we’ll be living in linen for the foreseeable. (And loving it.) For more ideas on how to wear linen, check out our lookbook.
