How I Wear The Straight Leg Jean
It's the new 'it' shape of the season, but how do you even begin to style a straight leg jean when you're used to wearing skinnies? We recruited fashion and lifestyle blogger Amanda Start from The Online Stylist to share her style tips. The result? We all want a pair.
I was once asked by a blog reader, "How many pairs of jeans do you think is too many?" My answer was "You can never have too many pairs!" And I still stand by this today – my own wardrobe is testament with at least 15 pairs at the last count.
With so many variables on cut, colour, length and hems now available, it's easy to quickly build up a comprehensive denim wardrobe. Justification comes in the form of needing a pair for every occasion/shoe/mood. And don't get me started on all the different types of distressing and rips – I'm a sucker for the added details!
But when you get back to basics (or perhaps you're having a new season de-clutter and are scaling back?), you can't fail with a classic cut in mid-blue that will work for every style eventuality. Say Hello to the Straight Cut.
These are super soft and comfy to wear yet have a really flattering fit – I've been wearing mine on repeat. All in the name of road testing White Stuff denim!
Their classic mid-rise waist is a must as far as I'm concerned and the stretch factor is just right. At £49.95, the mid-range price point is spot on too.
So how do you get the most from your new spring denim addition?
A great pair of jeans forms the backbone of my everyday attire. I work from home a lot; have a daughter who needs ferrying here there and everywhere and an energetic Labrador who loves nothing more than a long walk.
Comfort and versatility is key on my work from home days. Once the main dog walk has been done and the wellies come off, the jeans get cuffed and on go the trainers. This has become my go-to uniform of late.
In early spring I'll go for the light sweater layering option and come those warmer days, I'll be swapping for a shirt. I literally can't wait to start wearing warm weather clothes now!
Whenever I can't decide what to wear, jeans and something in black is my failsafe formula.
